| What is EVP?
EVP, or electronic voice phenomena, is the recording of anomalous voices onto electronic devices for which there is no natural explanation. As technology has increased, so have the terms used for this phenomena. The term Instrumental TransCommunication (ITC) describes expanded modes of audio and video format communication. Other acronyms used in the literature include Electronic Disturbance Phenomena (EDP) and Trans-Dimensional Communication (TDC).
The most common device used by investigators is the digital recorder. These devices can be purchased at any electronics store and are simple to use. Many investigators choose to use white noise to assist in collecting EVP. Examples of white noise include radio static and/or a fan on low speed. Effigy Paranormal does not use this practice and believes it detracts from the credibility of the actual EVP captured. It has been proven that filtering the sound of a fan on low speed can produce what sounds like voices. Our team believes that this practice is unnecessary to capture EVP and only uses filtering software to enhance what has been detected straight from the recorder.
